Education or Indoctrination?

An American soldier overseas is fuming over letters he received from Brooklyn middle-school children accusing GIs of destroying mosques and killing civilians in Iraq.

Pfc. Rob Jacobs of New Jersey said he was initially ecstatic to get a package of letters from sixth-graders at JHS 51 in Park Slope last month at his base 10 miles from the North Korea border.

That changed when he opened the envelope and found missives strewn with politically charged rhetoric, vicious accusations and demoralizing predictions that only a handful of soldiers would leave the Iraq war alive.

What does this say about what our kids are being a) taught in schools, and b) socialized to by the media? An 8th grader sends a US Servicemember a poiltical rant? One has to wonder how and why a 14 year old kid gets this kind of "information?"
(link found on Worldnetdaily.com)

Apparently, the teacher who spawned the vitriolic missives is, and I quote, "Really sorry." WEEELLLL, I guess that makes it ok then. As long as you're SORRY, then we'll just move on.

One has to wonder what would have happened if one of the letters had gone to a sister school in, oh say, Iraq, and some of the letters had accused the Iraqis of killing Americans and blowing up skyscrapers? Holy Shiite, what a freakin' hornets nest that would be. Ah, but see, if you allow your students to accuse a US serviceman of being a pillager and murderer, it's ok, as long as you apologize afterwards. That really takes the sting out, doesn't it?

Update on Blogger vs. Tulsa World News

Michael Bates of Batesline has posted several updates on the developing story of a local media outlet using clearly illegal tactics to silence his watchdogedness.

A story worth following if you are serious about using blogs to keep tabs on the Fourth Estate -- and being prepared for the virulence of their reaction!

Ya Gotta Read This Post

Things I wish I had said
A great perspective on abortion from Dorinda Bordlee of NRO, one I hadn't really seen before.

Thanks to Carin of "Is This Blog On?"

Now who is disenfranchising voters?

5 Democrats face trialfor slashing GOP tires
Campaign staffers accused of vandalizing 25 vans to drive voters, monitors to polls

"Five Democratic campaign staffers who allegedly slashed the tires of 25 Republican get-out-the-vote vans on Election Day in Milwaukee will stand trial on felony charges.

Meanwhile, a former Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee staffer, Roger Chiang, pleaded guilty yesterday to mail fraud in the theft of $360,000 in donor checks."

If people are supposedly so hot to vote Democrat, why do you need to keep Republican's from the polls?
(thanks to WorldNetDaily for the link)

Just a normal, healthy, alternative liftestyle...no, really.

This article (and trend) just really sends my blood-pressure through the roof.

S.D. man could have aggressive HIV strain

They questioned whether the virus is truly a lethal variety, or whether the New York patient's immune system, extensive use of methamphetamines and genetic makeup might be contributing factors to his rapidly deteriorating condition.

Health officials said the New York patient reportedly had unsafe anal sex with hundreds of partners while taking crystal methamphetamine. The drug's stimulating effect and erasure of inhibitions contribute to sex marathons that have increased the spread of HIV, they explained.

Why is that, one the one hand, we keep preaching about what a terrible scourge AIDS is, and how we need to commit umptee-gazillion dollars to fight AIDS world-wide, and yet, we do nothing about the unchecked spread of the disease in our own country? Self-destructive lifestyles are breeding ever-more virulent strains of the virus, and there are even cases of people being infected with multiple strains:

The case involved a individual whose number of HIV-infected cells suddenly shot upwards after antiviral therapies had successfully kept the patient's original HIV infection in check for nearly a year. Additional studies confirmed that the patient was infected by a second HIV strain well after the first infection.

These sorts of things only happen in one way: individuals with AIDS continuing to have sex, with OTHER people with AIDS. The attitude seems to be, hey, if I'm already infected, I'll just find a partner who had AIDS, too. Or, perhaps its just, "I don't give a damn about anybody but myself." Well, that's not even accurate. People in this demographic don't seem to give a damn about themselves, either.

Lawsuits abound which center around preventing all sorts of unsafe behavior. OSHA imposes all sort of regulations and statutes designed to "protect" people from all manner of work-related ills (real or imagined). The law requires that we wear seatbelts while in our cars and helmets while on our bikes. A jury awards thousands of dollars to a hamfisted airhead who can't multi-task and spills coffee in her lap because McDonalds filled the cup too full.

Yet we do nothing about people who engage in clearly suicidal or homocidal behavior, having sex with multiple partners after they KNOW THEY ARE HIV POSITIVE. Why are these people not in jail? Why aren't they chained to a bed in a ward of some institution somewhere in order to protect other people from this maniacal disregard for human life - theirs or others?

Because that would be discriminatory, that would be intolerant, that would be insensitive. Because homosexuals have become the Untouchables in today's ever-more "progressive" society. We can put a mother in jail and take away her kids because she took drugs while she was pregnant, but a homosexual man infects multiple people with HIV, and he's left to walk the streets. Does it not enter anyone's brain that this man is a SERIAL KILLER?

If a man was going around injecting HIV-infected blood into people's arms, he'd be arrested and locked away for life, villified as a monster. However, if a man goes around injecting HIV-infected semen into people's rectums, he's given counseling, a condom, and a new regime of taxpayer subsidized drugs.

Here's a thought: If you are HIV positive, STOP HAVING SEX. If you have AIDS, keep it in your pants. If not, you go to jail for 1st Degree murder. Case closed.

Blogger riles local paper - Lawsuit threatened

A Tulsa blog named "BatesLine,"run by Michael Bates, has come under fire from a local paper for copyright infringement because he links to or references Tulsa World articles on his blog. The newspaper is totally out of line on this one, and Bates does an excellent job of explaining why.

Also includes a link to Matt of Nerf-Coated World, who provides some guidelines for bloggers on Fair Use, where using hyperlinks falls in regards to copyrights, etc.

Looking for a few good Gender Neutral Servicepersons

It seems a bit odd, in an ironically and darkly humorous sort of way, that the loudest and most strident critics of the military's "Don't ask Don't tell" policy on homosexuality are individuals who have never served in the military, and because of their political predilections, probably never would.

Graduate student Mitch Day said he attended the protest in part to show his disappointment in the military's discrimination against gays.

"But I'm also really here because I oppose the war in Iraq," he said.

In the article, there is an outcry against recruiting for military lawyers on a college campus, because the military policy violates the school's diversity policy (this is popping up more and more at Uni's like Yale, UC Buh-klay, and others.

These vocal tsk-tsk'ers are somehow blind to the fact that the military is a unique organization with a unique calling, and thus has very specialized requirements. The ability to proscribe or require certain activities, capabilities or character traits is essential to the good order and discipline of the military, AS DETERMINED BY the military.

Making the military a petri dish for social experiments in progressive morality and social activism is a fatal practice that weakens the core of our national defense, and directly impacts the ability of our armed forces to perform their most fundamental function - kill people and break things.

We've all gone mad, stark raving MAD!

First Grader Punished for Bag of Dirt

Sikeston, Missouri --A Southeast Missouri first grader finds herself in big trouble after playing with a plastic bag she found on the playground.
After finding the bag much like the one disposable utensils come in, Michaela says she decided to make her friend a bag of goodies, "They said what did you make this out of. and what did you tell them. I said out of dirt. And what else. I made it with rocks, clover and dirt."
Her mom, Michele, says after Michaela put the mixture into the bag, she tied the top with a purple ponytail holder and gave it to her friend saying,"here's a bag of dirt."
After recess was over the student gave the bag of dirt to their teacher.
Michele says after meeting with the teacher and principal, she was told that the bag of dirt, "looked like a bag of weed."

Michele says she doesn't deny what her daughter did. But she does disagree with the two-day in-school detention. "They said it would be on her school record as far as disciplinary that she made a look alike drug but I don't feel like that's right. Because she didn't do anything wrong."
Unbelievable. Can our kids just be kids anymore? Everyone is a criminal, and it's guilty until proven innocent, except that due to incidents like this, our kids lose their innocence all too early. Both the teacher and the Principal in this case need a swift kick to the cranium. What's next? "In the news today, and 4 year old was suspended from preschool for coloring outside the lines."

Zero Tolerance has come to mean Zero Common Sense.

From the "Don't Bother With A Trial" files...

Just one round to the temple, save the taxpayers a lot of money...

"When Ngai Fung Fong allegedly steered his car off a Sunnyvale road and hit a family of four out for a walk, witnesses weren't sure it wasn't some bizarre accident. When the Sunnyvale man allegedly doubled back and plowed into the family a second time, there was little doubt it was intentional, witnesses said Thursday. "
"I just couldn't believe what I saw," said Tim Warfield, 55, of Sunnyvale. "You want to give people the benefit of the doubt. But, nope. He turned around and just floored it and hit them again.
"From the "I Just Quit Defending Condi Rice" Files:

I've been hot to defend Condoleeza Rice against her strident Left-Wing critics, but if this excerpt from the World Affairs Brief is true, then it's time to rethink my position.

World Affairs Brief, Feb 11th, 2005
Sec. of State Condoleezza Rice was busy this week trying to bolster the sellout of Israel. Supposedly, "looking for fresh alternatives to get the Palestinian Arab terrorists to stop killing Israeli Jews," Rice suggested paying terrorists to go into retirement. What planet is she living on? Is there any historical precedent giving substance to this harebrained idea of rewarding terrorism? Why doesn’t she suggest we do that here in America? Does anyone think the Bush administration would be willing to pay all the prisoners at Guantanamo a pension and send them home in peace?
Apparently she is serious. The NY Times said she was going to ask the EU to provide a special pension fund for terrorists: $100 per month. I notice she doesn’t have the gall to suggest this to Americans. Rice also declared, "The Israelis [are] going to have to recognize that there [is] going to have to be contiguous land for the Palestinian state to exist on." That sounds nice until you realize it means that Israel must grant them a corridor that splits Israel into two parts. The perpetrators of the phony peace process want to be sure that new weapons arriving in Gaza will be able to make their way unimpeded into West Bank towns.
Rice announced another General officer to serve as security coordinator: Lt. Gen. William E. (Kip) Ward, presently serving as deputy commander of US Ground Forces in Europe. Ward, a black American, has served in all the globalist hot spots of US intervention: Somalia, Bosnia, Egypt – and this is looking to be more of the same. What this means is that the US is sending in a military liaison to coordinate US training of Palestinians, just like the CIA under Tenet trained Palestinian policemen in explosives and other useful-for-terror tactics.

I'll be trying to track down more information to support or discredit this amazing homage to appeasement (a philosophy which has worked just oh-so-well in the past...)

And we embed journalists WHY?
Photographer Chris Hondros reports on a US patrol killing two parents and orphaning six children in a vehicle approaching their position. He laments, "this is the sort of thing that happens in war." Not as a "shit happens" kind of thing, but as yet another example of how the terror of war is to be avoided at all costs. And oh, by the way, if you listen to the audio, apparently we were there "forcing people to have elections." Yep, we lined 'em up and forced them to brave bombs, mortars and snipers to vote. And then we put a gun to their head and made them dance in the streets for joy. What a putz.

News Flash - All Journalist Pure as the Driven Snow...

...Except of course, James Guckert, aka Jeff Gannon (Reporter quits amid credential questions) of Talon News. The controversy rages on.

Apparently his greatest crimes, aside from falsifying credentials, were asking "pointedly conservative questions" and, perhaps worse even than that, being "linked with online domain addresses suggestive of gay pornography."

While it's doubtful anyone can defend Mr. Guckert-Gannon methods, or perhaps even his (as yet unsubstantiated) extra-curricular activities, it seems what drew everyone's attention to this individual was his penchant for asking conservatively partisan or 'soft' questions to the President. You mean {gasp!}, some reporters might have a political bias or leaning in the questions they ask? I can see how the objective Fourth Estate would be so up in arms about such a travesty.

My question is, what bearing does his web-hosting activities have on any of this? Why are his sexual predilections being brought into play? If he was known for his virulent anti-porn stances, then maybe this would play.

Or is the root of this controversy the fact that he presents himself as a conservative, makes veiled slights against liberals as having, "divorced themselves from reality," and then, lo and behold, is (allegedly) involved in some way with homosexuality. Ah, now I see the conflict.

On the one hand he condemns liberals, and then turns around and engages in morally questionable activities. A clear case of hypocrisy and self-contradiction.

Update: Thanks to the nod from Brainster's Blog! Great site, check it out.

World Heritage Sites = UN Territory

Heritage Sites are areas in countries throughout the world deemed to be of "universal" cultural or environmental value. They are tied inextricably with the UN focus on "sustainable development", a concept you will see intimately woven into other UN sovereignty-sucking documents like the Kyoto Protocol and Agenda 21. If you don't know about Sus-Dev, Kyoto, or Agenda 21, you need to find out.

Area registered as Heritage sites are no longer the territory of the country in which they reside. Heritage sites are "international" (UN) territory under "universal" protection, for the good of all mankind. Once something is registered as a Heritage site, it cannot be modified, moved or removed without the permission of the governing body (World Heritage Committee); only preserved and maintained. Here is a list of Heritage Sites in the US which now belong to the International Community.

Guidelines for what can or cannot happen to a Heritage site can be found in the Operational Guidelines for the Implementation of the World Heritage Convention (PDF document). Note the section which reads:
"While fully respecting the sovereignty of the States on whose territory the [Heritage Site] is situated (comma)..."

And then proceeds to list all the ways these areas are under the protection and management of the international community.

This program is also tied into maintaining "bio-diversity", another catch phrase by which the UN gets its sticky little fingers into everybody's pies. Check out the Law of The Sea Treaty (LOST), and hopefully you will start to see how all the little pieces fit together to take away control of our country and its resources and give them to the UN.

Terrorism LIte

As I surf through the blogosphere using the "Next Blog" button, I've come across numerous ambush sites which have embeded malicious code in the Blog's HTML, with some sort of pop-up window or java script that requires a password, then won't accept one, or demands that you "Upgrade Your Internet Explorer," or any number of other annoying payloads.

Knowing what I do about computers, I'm pretty sure that clicking "OK" will likely cause something very bad to happen to my computer. So I click the "X" in the upper right corner, but even then I am held hostage by some looping code-string unti I ultimately have to "end task" using the task manager.

People that hijack websites like that are the same ones who, in high school or the frat in college, would offer you a drink of their soda, only to find out it was the can they were using for their tobacco spit, or maybe even filled with piss.

Theses are the kind of people who lay in wait on the side of the road with a supposedly broken down car until a good samaritan finally stops -- then they shoot the kind-hearted indvidual in the head and steal their car.

Ambush sites are terrorism, plain and simple. Maybe planes don't crash and burn, maybe buildings don't collapse, but the intent in the heart of the cyberterrorist is the same as any jihadist.

They may even think it's "funny", but it's just plain evil. I put them in the same category as people who write computer viruses, or send bulk email spam. They are prime candidates for a retroactive abortion.

Burn in hell, cyberterrorists, burn in hell.

Cookie klatch lands girls in court

"Two Durango teens thought they'd surprise neighbors with nighttime deliveries of home-baked treats. But one woman was so terrified, she sued and has won."

"Inside one of the nine scattered rural homes south of Durango that got cookies that night, a 49-year-old woman became so terrified by the knocks on her door around 10:30 p.m. that she called the sheriff's department. Deputies determined that no crime had been committed."

A Durango judge Thursday awarded Young almost $900 to recoup her medical bills. She received nothing for pain and suffering.
"The victory wasn't sweet," Young said Thursday afternoon. "I'm not gloating about it. I just hope the girls learned a lesson."

Learned their lesson?! LEARNED THEIR LESSON?! What kind of idiotic madness is this? This story is tragic in two respects. One, that our society has descended to such a depth that people are afraid to answer their door at night in fear of home invasion, random gang violence, or some other undefined yet deeply felt fear. Two, that in our litigation-happy society, the first recourse for wrong is to take two teenagers to court, rather than try and work it out one on one. In everything we run to the government, the system, to make everything all right.

Sadly, there arelessons to be learned here. Two teenage girls should know better than to be out unaccompanied in the evening; it's just not safe. Also, in our fear ridden society, knocking at a neighbor's door at 10:00 pm is likely to get you shot, or arrested.

So put away those thoughts of compassion, service, and love. Lock your doors and hide inside like everybody else. Land of the free and home of the brave? Hmmm....

News from the front lines

Here's a little insight into the so-called quagmire that is Iraq, taken from an email I received from a Marine flying C-130s over there.

"Some very interesting things from this experience: The people know which parts of the country has Marines and which parts have U.S. Army. When I told one Iraqi we were taking him to Mosul and he relayed that to the rest of the passengers they got very upset. Almost a riot. They claimed that they were promised Marine security, they had no faith in the Army, and Mosul had no Marines. They were begging us to either not give them to the Army or to stay with them. We flew a U.S. and Iraqi flag side by side in the cargo bay, and many Iraqis would point to the two flags and make the hand signal for friends. One asked me why we had the two flags up, I told him that we want the U.S. and Iraq to be friends. He turned to the rest of the Iraqis and yelled something in Arabic and they all got up and started dancing and singing with delight. Another Iraqi told me that 'President Bush's gift to the Iraqi people is democracy, and U.S. Marines.' These people were all Shiites from the south, I very much doubt the Sunnis feel the same."

Ooh-rah Marines! And it kind of paints a different picture than you hear from John Kerry or Ted Kennedy, don't it?

Clinton Rebuilding Indonesia?

Is it just me, or does the idea of giving Bill Clinton the nod for rebuilding the sex capital of the world just not sound like a good idea at all?

A rapist and serial adulterer with a proven history of taking money from all the wrong people for all the wrong reasons, is put in charge of fund raising for relief efforts, managing contracts (which he will undoubtedly give to the Chinese -- Panama Canal anyone?), and putting the kibosh on the rising trade in sex slave from Tsunami victims.

I suspect he'll do most of his fund raising at Buddhist temples (may have to bring in Al Gore on that one). A couple of years from now there will be a big UN "food-for-sex" scandal, and I don't EVEN want to imagine what part Kofi Annan will play in THAT one, because it's a visual I just don't need.

I honestly can't see Clinton getting any work done, what with dollar pitcher nights and half-price table dances on Tuesdays. "No, no, no, Mr Clinton. When we said we wanted you to get on top of the sex trade in Thailand, we didn't mean, well, literally."

Hold on to yer hats, folks

Well, I have finally decided to (in a most lemming-like fashion) jump on the Blogwagon.

I see this as a great way to highlight the increasingly irrational nature of so many of the liberal "progressives" in their quest for social re-engineering. There are numerous examples in news stories, press releases, or passing comments of some activist or elected official taking inherently illogical positions, making bizarre assertions, or presenting "facts" of dubious veracity which, while not warranting a full-on editorial broadside, certainly bear further scrutiny.

My hope here is to poke holes in straw man arguments (without making too many myself), burst the bubble of blind idealism, and foster a dependence on rational thought instead of emotional whimsy.

And so, on with the show!
